Information message

The Sports Awards will take place at the Annual Town Meeting on Thursday 23rd April 2026. Nominees and nominators will receive invites in advance. 

Status message

Data Protection

- In order to comply with Data Protection Law, for individual awards the nominee must give permission for their data to be shared with Littlehampton Town Council and the Sports Awards Judging Panel.

- Once a nomination has been made, the nominee will be contacted to obtain their or their parent or guardian’s permission, if under 16 years old.

- The nominee will not be told under which category they have been entered, only that they have been nominated for a Sports Award.

- If the nominee does not respond before the closing date their nomination will be considered void and any information erased.

CRITERIA

Littlehampton Sports Awards

Nominations are accepted for all types of recognised sports (disabled or non-disabled).

 

Sportsperson of the Year (One award and up to two certificates of commendation can be made)

  • The recipient of the award or certificate must be a resident of Littlehampton and/or associated with a Littlehampton Club.
  • The recipient may play for a team outside of Littlehampton.
  • The award may be given for sporting excellence, competitive achievement or an athlete’s dedication to their chosen sport.
  • Where a nominee is playing outside of the Town, the judging panel may give consideration as to whether this in any way detracts from that individual’s contribution to the Town.

 

Young Sportsperson of the Year (One award and up to two certificates of commendation can be made)

  • The recipients of an award or certificate must be a resident of Littlehampton and/or associated with a Littlehampton Club.
  • The recipient should be under 18 years of age.
  • The recipients may play for a team outside of Littlehampton.
  • The award may be given for sporting excellence, competitive achievement or an athlete’s dedication to their chosen sport.
  • Where a nominee is playing outside of the Town, the judging panel may give consideration as to whether this in any way detracts from that individual’s contribution to the Town.

     

Sports Team of the Year (One award and up to two certificates of commendation can be made)

  • The recipients of this award must be a team or club based in Littlehampton.
  • Members of the team do not have to be Littlehampton residents.
  • The award may be given for sporting excellence, competitive achievement or a team’s dedication to their chosen sport.

 

Youth Sports Team of the Year (One award and up to two certificates of commendation can be made)

  • The recipients of this award must be a team or club based in Littlehampton.
  • Members of the team do not have to be Littlehampton residents.
  • The award may be given for sporting excellence, competitive achievement or a team’s dedication to their chosen sport.

 

Coach of the Year (One award and up to two certificates of commendation can be made)

  • The recipient of this award can be anyone who coaches a Littlehampton-based team or sports organisation.
  • The recipient does not have to be a Littlehampton resident.

 

Contribution to Youth Sports (One award and up to two certificates of commendation can be made)

  • The recipient of this award will be someone who makes a significant contribution in the delivery of sports for young people in Littlehampton.
  • The recipient does not have to an athlete, but may be someone supporting a club on many levels, e.g. recruitment, establishing a youth team etc.
  • The recipient does not have to be a Littlehampton resident.

 

Sports Administrator of the Year (One award and up to two certificates of commendation can be made)

  • The recipient of this award will be an excellent administrator or organiser, working behind the scenes to assist a Littlehampton-based sports team or facility.
  • The recipient does not have to be a Littlehampton resident.

 

Contribution to Disabled Sport (One award and up to two certificates of commendation can be made)

  • The recipient of this award will be someone or an organisation making a significant contribution to the delivery or promotion of sports for people with disabilities in Littlehampton.
  • The recipient does not have to be a Littlehampton resident or a Littlehampton-based organisation so long as their work is of benefit to Littlehampton residents.

 

Unsung Hero of the Year (One award will be made)

  • The recipient must be part of a Littlehampton-based club or sports organisation.
  • The recipient will be someone who does not practice the sport but has made a valuable contribution in the last 12 months in supporting or promoting sports in Littlehampton, e.g. a keen fundraiser, social events organiser, driver etc.

 

Mayor’s Lifetime Contribution to Sport in Littlehampton (One award will be made, if appropriate)

  • The recipient can be a resident of the Town or someone from outside of Littlehampton, who has devoted a lifetime to making a difference to a sports team or organisation in the Town.
  • The recipient will have demonstrated outstanding dedication or silently gone about their duties, achieving success, without seeking out their own plaudits over the past few years.
  • Nominations may refer to coaching, volunteering or participating in any sport over a sustained period of time.
