The less favourable weather of recent weeks has played havoc with festive event organisers but Littlehampton Town Council was determined to mark this year’s Small Business Saturday. The original plan was to run an event on the High Street bringing together some of the  Christmas Lights Switch on attractions to create a larger celebration of Small Business Saturday. However, at the last minute the weather decided to turn again resulting in many stallholders and attractions simply not being safe to operate.

Some of the attractions were moved to The Manor House, with a Santa’s Grotto being one of the most popular as well as the free face painting. The Museum hosted storytelling from the Littlehampton Library whilst a crafts table saw hundreds of children enjoy making Christmas decorations to take home.

The day was filled with music from August Radio Project, you will find Ben and his guitar in the High Street on many of his busking occasions, the Vintage Duo, LPOS and the Sussex Steel Band.

Whilst visitors had a go at the Littlehampton and District Foodbank and the Arun Sunshine Group tombolas, the Grinch, Cindy Lou and Elsa greeted and entertained children. Many visitors enjoyed receiving special Christmas-themed ballon creations from Danny the Elf.

Shoppers enjoyed special offers, workshops and activities put on by businesses across the town centre.

Littlehampton Town Mayor and Chair of the Town Centre Action Group, Councillor Alan Butcher, said: “Despite the relocation of the Council-run activities, Small Business Saturday was a success. It was wonderful seeing many families enjoy the entertainment and stalls as well as showing their support in the High Street to all the local businesses. Thank you to Arun District Council for partnering with Littlehampton Town Council to provide free parking for this day!

Councillor Freddie Tandy, Arun District Council Chairman said: “I was thrilled to endorse initiatives that brought together our community and highlighted the wonderful businesses in Littlehampton. Small Business Saturday was an ideal occasion to support local businesses.”
