An extension to the Worthing Road allotments in Littlehampton was officially unveiled this week.

The allotments will be run by Littlehampton Town Council and have been delivered by Persimmon Homes as part of the Section 106 agreement included in planning permission for the development of new homes at Hampton Park.

At an unveiling ceremony last Thursday, Town Mayor Councillor Michelle Molloy officially opened the extension which consists of 15 new regular plots, 22 accessible plots.

Chair of the Allotments Working Group, Councillor Billy Blanchard-Cooper, said: “The new plots are a welcome addition to our allotment sites in particular the accessible ones which, together with those already available at Kingley Gate since 2018, mean that we can better accommodate the needs of local residents. We thank the Tesco’s Bags of Help scheme for their contribution which has enabled us to improve raised beds, accessible seating and equipment.  We are also extremely grateful to Persimmon for all of their help and support in delivering the project. The Town Council will continue to work hard to deliver additional allotments for the community as the Town grows in the coming years.”

Robert Clark, planning director for Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, added: “An integral part of the planning application for our Hampton Park development was to provide a network of green spaces and community facilities, including replacement and additional allotments. We are delighted with the end result of this extension to the Town Council’s Church Land allotments, which we know will be a huge asset to the local community and enjoyed for many years to come.”

The allotment extension will be accessed from the existing entrance on Worthing Road and six parking spaces have been provided.
