Thousands turn out for best ever Littlehampton Armed Forces Day

Thousands of residents and visitors braved the sweltering heat to welcome the Grenadier Guards to the Littlehampton Armed Forces Day celebrations on Saturday 30th June.

The Event began with a parade along Fitzalan Road led by the band of the Grenadier Guards and a traditional Drumhead Service involving local veterans and uniformed groups and continued with action packed arena attractions throughout the day. The Imps Motorcycle Display Team wowed the crowds with spectacular stunts performed by children as young as 5.

More exciting entertainment followed, with the Yak 2 flying display against the backdrop of perfect blue sky and a packed beach, Armoured Vehicle Display, an arena performance from the band of the Grenadier Guards, Cadets Drill Demonstration and the RBL Riders. Visitors also enjoyed exploring the wide range of military vehicles, supplied by local enthusiasts.

Other Highlight attractions included a Cadets Massed Band performance on the Stage by the Sea, the Scouts Crate Challenge and a charity fair, local uniformed groups and charities attracted plenty of visitors with an array of stalls. Over £1,500 was raised for the Royal British Legion poppy Appeal. The Town Council’s Chair of Community Resources, Councillor Ian Buckland said: “It was a fantastic day. On behalf of Littlehampton Town Council I would like to thank all of the community groups, performers and contractors who helped our events team make the day happen. I’d especially like to thank the band of the Grenadier Guards for joining and making the day a special one for so many people.”
