To kick start the new year, Littlehampton Museum is bringing the inspiring story of the suffrage movement to the town, with help from local expert Kevin Page and Littlehampton Civic Society Hon. Secretary Angela Tester.

Come and discover how four women, including the pioneer of working women’s rights and folk dancing Mary Neal, changed women’s history forever through their strong ties to Littlehampton. Kevin and Angela’s expert knowledge of these women’s lives will fascinate visitors, and hopefully inspire the whole community. The exhibition will bring these stories to life, and will feature objects such as a giant textile banner and ‘Votes for Women’ sash from Worthing Museum and several personal items belonging to the suffragette Cecily Hale from her relative Joanna Bosanquet.

On Saturday 27th January from 12-12:30pm, Kevin Page will be giving an in depth talk on the lives of these pioneering women. The talk will be held in the Community Gallery alongside the exhibition. The event is free, and there is no need to book.

“It’s fantastic to see the story of Littlehampton and the suffrage movement come to light” says Cllr Ian Buckland, Chair of the Community Resources Committee, “I’m hoping that this exhibition will spark a community interest in this important part of the town’s history.”
