Littlehampton Mayor meets Junior Neighbourhood Watch

River Beach Junior School in Littlehampton, became the first in the area to join the Junior Neighbourhood Watch after schools club. The school has certainly become one of its greatest fans.

Recently nineteen lucky children were delighted when, at the Year 5 and 6 Assembly, The Worshipful Mayor of Littlehampton Councillor Mrs Joyce Bowyer, Chief Inspector ‘Pip’ Taylor from Sussex Police, Magistrates, town ward representatives and Councillors, came along to the presentation of framed certificates to the successful boys and girls by Littlehampton Neighbourhood Watch.

The Mayor said that she had heard that River Beach Junior School was the first school in Littlehampton to take part in Junior Neighbourhood Watch, and asked the children whether they had enjoyed the experience. They enthusiastically replied “yes”, and especially the chocolate biscuits and squash that were on offer at the start of every session!

Chief Inspector ‘Pip’ Taylor also spoke of her commitment to the scheme, and offered her total support to other local schools which may wish to take the opportunity to introduce Junior Neighbourhood Watch to their pupils in the future.

The Mayor and the Chief Inspector presented each child with their personal framed certificate, and later spent some time speaking to the children and their proud parents.

The school itself was also presented with a certificate. The Headmistress Mrs Julie Clevett, said she was very proud of the individual achievements the children had made, and the school felt honoured to have been selected to trial a pilot scheme locally. She wished Littlehampton Neighbourhood Watch every success with this initiative.

PCSO Clodagh Lynch of Sussex Police was thanked for all the assistance she had given to the setting up of Junior Neighbourhood Watch, and her ongoing support throughout course.

Mike Cullern, Chair of Littlehampton Neighbourhood Watch, said: "It was a great pleasure to introduce this scheme to such a happy and committed group of young children. My colleagues and I knew that Junior Neighbourhood Watch would prove to be very popular, but I personally was amazed when so many other children leapt at the opportunity to sign up for the next courses."

Another group of keen children will shortly be commencing the next Junior Neighbourhood Watch course at the school, and there is a further waiting list for the one after that.
