A widespread of inspiring energy was witnessed when nearly 80 Olympians descended on the High Street last Saturday for the annual Pancake Olympics extravaganza. Organisers, Littlehampton Town Council, were impressed by the determination to raise funds for charity shown by the sixteen teams. The first challenge the teams faced was the unique pancake curling discipline where one team member had to slide a curling stone with a pancake on top and aim for the target whilst the other team mate wafted a frying pan, a crucial element of the curling technique. It was clear that the winners of this discipline, The Laurels (Self-unlimited), had been watching the Sochi Games very closely as their technique was something else! Right behind them receiving the Silver pan was the Littlehampton Player’s Operatic Society and taking bronze was the Sainsbury’s Team.

In the last challenge participants had to flip a pancake as many times possible in 30 seconds. The largest amount of flips was produced by the Raydar Kids Team (68), followed by Littlehampton Baptist Church (58) and finally Littlehampton Cricket Club with 43 flips, all winning gold, silver and bronze pans respectively.

The obstacle course and relay, had to be cancelled as the ground was dangerously slippery. The Enable Me team were crowned champions in this year’s challenges and in addition to the coveted Gold Frying Pan they received a cheque for £100 courtesy of Littlehampton Town Council, which will be going towards activities for service users. Receiving the Silver frying pan and a £50 cineworld voucher courtesy of Sainsbury’s Littlehampton were the Sainsbury’s Team who donated their prize to their charity Crossroads Central Care. Coming last but not least was the Laurels from Walberton based charity Self Unlimited; an organisation that provides support services to people with learning disabilities who also received a cheque for £25 courtesy of Pegrums Family Services in addition to their bronze frying pan.

Littlehampton Town Council would like to thank Sainsbury’s for their continued support with the event and for once again sponsoring the pancakes for the activities and Pegrums Family Services for donating £25 to the Bronze team.
