Coronation of King Charles III and Camilla

The coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 6 May 2023, at Westminster Abbey. Charles acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022, upon the death of his mother, Elizabeth II.

How you can get involved

To celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort, Littlehampton Town Council held a shop window competition for local businesses. 

The top three entries will win a cash donation for a charity of their choice. You can view the final three entries on the Littlehampton Town Council Facebook page

Littlehampton Museum’s Coronation Display can be seen in the Museum’s Butterworth Gallery from April 19 to June 23. Showcasing objects and photos relating to previous coronation celebrations in Littlehampton alongside children’s letters to King Charles III written by visitors to the Museum. Includes some new donations to the Museum’s collection that haven’t been seen before.

With the coronation taking place this coming weekend, Littlehampton Museum are asking the people of Littlehampton, to send them photos of your parties and celebrations. Please email these to museum@littlehampton-tc.gov.uk for the images to be added to their collection for those in the future to see! 

Entry to Littlehampton Museum is free. 

The UK has a long history of organised street parties to celebrate national events. Why not organise one for your neighbours for the Coronation?

You’re welcome to host parties right across the bank holiday weekend, or as part of The Big Jubilee Lunch (see below). Read guidance on how to host a street party.  Applications for permissions for street parties from Arun District Council have now closed.

To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and Camilla, The Eden Project are inviting local communities to take part in The Big Lunch. The Big Lunch brings neighbours and communities together to share friendship, food and fun. Get your free pack and start planning something to look forward to!

This year you can be part of history and join millions across the UK, and further afield, with the Coronation Big Lunch on 6-8 May.

To mark His Majesty The King’s Coronation thousands of organisations across the country are getting together to give us all the chance to help out in our own local communities.

Starting on Monday 8th May there will be opportunities for everyone to join in. No matter what you are good at, there’ll be something to suit helping hands of all shapes and sizes!

The Coronation will be broadcast live on television. The Coronation Service will take place on the morning of Saturday, 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey. Their Majesties the King and The Queen Consort will then arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession’. More information on the times of the day is to be confirmed.

Both processions and the Coronation service will be broadcast live on national television, radio and online. The first procession will begin at 10:20am and the service begins at 11am.

On Sunday 7 May, a concert will be held in the grounds of Windsor Castle to mark the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The concert will be attended by a public audience including volunteers from charities supported by Their Majesties.

The concert will be broadcast live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, and supported across the BBC network. It will be shown on large screens at screening sites in London and events around the country.

The concert will include music, dance and spoken word performances, and feature a range of famous faces from musical icons to contemporary stars of stage and screen.

The government Kings Coronation website has put together a range of useful templates and materials to help you with your Platinum Jubilee celebrations, including bunting, recipe cards, kids’ activity sheets, a celebration playlist, plus social media assets using the official emblem.
